Hello Monday ... what a wet and chilly weekend so spent it behind the settee sleeping as that's what cats do.  On the other hand the master has been busy painting and generally making a mess, which annoyed the mistress (so nothing new there then!!).

Have a few guests to look forward to meeting this week.  Note to self: groom and floss - always must look my best for first time visitors ... well I need to endear my cuddly self to them in the best possible way; don't forget you don't get a second chance to make a good first impression!

Back to the afternoon nap,
Jasper

Cold Turkey, and not the sort I like!

The mistress has had a stressful few days - the laptop crashed and withdrawal symptoms ensued!  Luckily for us our feeding times were not affected.  She's now back to normal and been busy sitting at the work top typing away.  A 10 minute break for lunch enabled me to get on here and keep you updated on things at Old Nibley.  Must say it's getting chilly outside and what with the torrential rain last night, the kitchen is one of the better places to be.
The maintenance man - aka our master -  has been busy painting one of the bedrooms.  He's nearly finished and about to use that noisy sucking thing that you drag around the floor - hate it so I'm off to a quieter location, bye!!!

The Huntress

good hunting in the garage!
It's always down to me to keep the territory free of vermin.  I can sit for hours watching a spot and then  WHOOSH, I spring into action.  Like a coiled spring I leap forward and get the mouse or bird, the latter being a no no to my mistress but I just can't help myself.

I've managed to catch a couple of rabbits and even a squirrel - they're not off limits so there's no telling off if I drag them back.

The only problem with being such a good hunter is that Jasper thinks that I catch them for him and sometimes I let him have a few of my kills - well, he is getting on a bit!

Oooh, the cupboard's being opened ... biscuits!!

Albert's Story ... so far

Think it's about time that I set the record straight.  You can see by my photos that I am obviously the cutest and best looking of the bunch - the others agree ... I am so much bigger than them even with one leg missing!

I lost my back left leg when I was 3 and half years old.  I ended up at the vets one Saturday morning having difficulty breathing and before I knew it I was under anaesthetic having an operation on my stomach.  My mistress was so upset and came to visit me ... not a pretty sight I can tell you (her not me, ha ha).

Anyway, another of couple of days later my leg started to go numb and by day 5 another operation was taking place.  This time when my mistress came to visit it was me not looking so cute or pretty, just quiet and feeling vulnerable.  She was so upset but I did manage a paw to paw touch which cheered her up no end I could tell!

A week later I went home and spent the next few weeks being pampered.  Jasper and Charlee didn't know what to make of me - the smell of antiseptic stuff must have put them off.  Back to the vest a month later and the stitches were removed.  Back home and then the long path of getting used to 3 legs; wasn't easy but I eventually got the hang of it and within a year I was climbing trees again.  I don't miss the leg but there are days when I still think it's there and that's after seven years.  Whenever I get an itch behind my left ear I have to itch it but obviously I can't relieve it so my mistress comes to the rescue - I knew those nails would come in useful one day!

aah, aren't I cute at just 4 months old

Jasper's first contribution

And about time too!  I've been waiting to write something instead of sleeping on the laptop, although it is a lovely warm spot to rest my head.  I'm Jasper and live in Gloucester.  There are 3 of us, Albert the ginger and white 3 legged monster (well, he's bigger than me anyway!) and Charlee who kindly gets mice for me.

Today there's no activity due to the fact it's too cold and windy outside so we're all lazing around, waiting for 4 o'clock, which is about the time Albert gets up and bothers our servants for biscuits.  We leave it to him cos he has the whiniest meow that really annoys so the servants are very quick to dish out biscuits.

Yaaawwwn ... all this typing has made me tired so back to the settee for a snooze.  Speak to you again soon

About Us

I own a B&B on the edge of the Forest of Dean, Gloucester.  I have had the privilege of the company of cats for 16 years now and they have been a constant source of amusement and company.  They say that cats have staff ... it's true, they run the house in their own subtle way.  They are very friendly and we are very lucky that most of our guests like cats too.  Jasper is the most friendly and always has to make himself known when new guests arrive.

If you would like to know more about the house and garden the cats inhabit then click on the picture of Albert.
